The Petaluma Health Center’s mission is to provide high quality health care with access for all in Southern Sonoma County.
As president, Robert was very focused on fundrasing and finding outlets for the Center's mission. One of his projects included participating in the founding of the Free Health Clinic at the Phoenix Theatre, a resource that served as a replacement for the Petaluma Free Clinic that closed in 2002. Robert still serves as an associate member of the board, bringing his business background to aid in their publicity and fundrasing efforts.
They are a Federally Qualified Health Center that provides primary medical care and mental
health services to Petaluma, Cotati, Rohnert Park, and the surrounding areas are currently the second largest health care provider to Petaluma.
In addition to its role in providing low-cost coverage, they pride their holistic approach to health by focusing preventative care and incorporating alternative treatments in addition to the most effective Western medicines. For more information about the center, visit them here.
The historic theatre began its life in 1905 as the Hill Opera House, brining acts such as Harry Houdini and Enrico Caruso. Through various transformations from movie theater to concert house, the venue became the Phoenix Theatre in 1982.
In the late 1990s the current owner secured a sales contract with a commercial developer - a buyer with the resources for the much-needed retrofitting and modernization of the building - his plans were to transform the historic building into office suites.
In a style only fitting of the theatre’s colorful history, the developer was bought-out of his escrow by a group of four Telecom-industry locals, all musicians, who eventually founded the non-profit Phoenix Theatre Inc. Their Real Estate agents also happened to be musicians: Robert and Elaine Ramirez.
The theater now serves as a music venue, teen center, and free health clinic. As a much-utilized teen center that is primarily self-funded as commercial venue, the Phoenix truly is a unique and valuable community asset to Petaluma and Sonoma County as a whole. To note, many new musicians have earned their stripes on the infamous stage of the Phoenix, including none less than Metallica, Gwen Stefani, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more.
